Engineering a Corrugated Mailer that Survives the Last Mile

According to FEFCO, over 60% of e-commerce parcels ship in corrugated mailers. Engineering for the last-mile environment matters as much as graphics.

Flute selection

  • E-flute (1.5 mm) — fine printing, retail-ready mailers.
  • B-flute (3 mm) — balanced strength and print.
  • EB double-wall — heavier items, bottle shippers.

ECT or burst?

ECT (Edge Crush Test) is the modern standard for stacking strength in distribution. Specify ECT 32# for typical 5 kg parcels.

Tape-free, tear-strip and double-adhesive

Modern auto-lock and self-erecting crash-lock boxes save 4–6 seconds per pack. Pre-applied tear strips delight customers and reduce return-shipping friction.

Printing

Flexo, litho-lam and direct digital. For Amazon-style scannable codes, plan a clean ≥30 × 30 mm quiet zone.
